Liposuction
What is liposuction?
Liposuction is the process by which small amounts of fat under the skin is removing with the help of a small cannula and a suction machine.
In facial plastic surgery we specialize in liposuction of the neck and the area under the chin. Liposuction of some parts of the lower face can also be carefully performed with in some patients.
How is liposuction performed?
Small incisions are made under the chin and behind the ears and the liposuction cannulas can be introduced through there in order to remove the excessive fat and create the desired outcome. The operation is often done with local anaesthesia as an outpatient, but can be done under general anaesthesia if desired. It is often performed in conjunction with other procedures such as facelifts, neck lifts and chin implants.
What is the recovery like?
The recovery time is usually under two weeks, with some mild bruising and swelling of the area. Some skin or soft tissue irregularities can occur, but these tend to disappear in a few weeks. Numbness of the operated area also is temporary.
