Immediately following this residency, Dr. Ellis took a
post-residency fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Dr. Ellis opened his practice in Toronto, which consisted of private practice as well as being associated with the teaching of Facial Plastic Surgery at The University of Toronto.
He does his teaching through appointments at The University Health Network at The Toronto General Hospital.
Dr. Ellis is the past chairman of Continuing Medical Education of his University Department and he has been director of CME programs at the University of Toronto.
He has been a moderator of Telemedicine Canada (Distant Education) for The Department of Otolaryngology and lectures on Facial Plastic Surgery for numerous Continuing Medical Education Societies and at many American and Canadian Universities. He has many facial plastic surgery publications written in peer review medical publications. Dr. Ellis feels that continuing education is vital in keeping current with the changing philosophy, techniques, and the advances of Facial Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Ellis is currently the past President of the Canadian Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery, Past Canadian Vice President of The American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, and the Past President and Secretary of The Canadian Society of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery. Recently, he was on the Board of The American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and has been nominated as President. Most recently, Dr. Ellis received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Toronto Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck surgery for professional and ethical stands of the highest order.
Dr. Ellis specializes and limits his practice to Plastic, Cosmetic, and Reconstructive Surgery of the face, head, and neck. Surgery which includes rhinoplasty, facelift, blepharoplasty, forehead lift, liposuction of the neck and jowls, all types of facial implants, and laser resurfacing, scar revision, and otoplasty. Reconstructive surgery for skin malignancies, facial paralysis, and trauma are also an integral part of his practice. Dr. Ellis practices only facial plastic surgery, not general and body plastic surgery.
In 1987, Dr. Ellis became a Fellowship Director for the Post-Residency Fellowship program sponsored by The University of Toronto and The American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. This is a one-year program. Since 1987, Dr. Ellis has had one Fellow per year and our present Fellow is Dr. Andrew Burchard. Dr. Burchard is fully trained. He is able to help with treatment of patients while he upgrades his skills in Facial Plastic Surgery.
